All about us
Our club name is BRAMBLEWOOD BADMINTON CLUB. In January 2023 the new winning club name was announced for the combined Imberwood and Chelwood Gate clubs. Going forward into the 2023/24 season the club will be proudly playing under the new name.
Imberwood & Chelwood Gate Badminton Club was formed in September 2022. In July 2022 Chelwood Gate approached Imberwood to propose an amalgamation of the two clubs. Since the covid-19 pandemic both clubs were finding membership dwindling. Chelwood Gate were struggling to find new a place to play after needing to leave their original location where they had played for years. Combining forces we are looking forward to flourishing in the future.
Imberwood Badminton Club was formed in 2001 as a result of an amalgamation of two smaller, thriving clubs of Imber and Gardenwood. Starting out as social badminton for adults.
bit of history
The current club has around 35 members with an average turnout of 18 per club night. We are always interested in potential members who have playing experience and are not complete beginners.
We are a friendly club with a good mix of members offering social badminton along side strong competitive badminton. All club nights and matches are played with feather shuttlecocks. A number of our players compete in local league matches which are played from September until April in Sussex, Surrey & Kent. The club is affiliated to Badminton England.
Club nights are played on Tuesday evenings all-year-round from 8:15pm in an excellent purpose-built sports hall with one of the best playing surfaces around in addition to the excellent hall lighting. Changing facilities and showers are available on site after your tough workout. This is at Brambletye School, near East Grinstead.
Every year we hold our friendly club tournament - The Tandy Tournament, in memory of a much loved member of Imberwood, Kevin Tandy, who sadly passed away playing the game he loved.
A fun night is held in the summer for family and friends of members. It's a evening of fun and games for both adults and children. Anyone can join in whether you play badminton or not !
Throughout the year we hold regular social events such as summer barbeques, curry nights, escape rooms and of course a Christmas party.
New members and visitors are always welcome.
